Festival “Singing War” – HKW/ Berlin
January 2016

The voices of prisoners of war from Europe, the Congo, North Africa and Asia: The sound archives (German: Lautarchiv) of the Humboldt University of Berlin contain 7,500 shellac records with recordings made in German prisoner-of-war camps between 1915 and 1918.

The Düsseldorf pianist, the New York/Berlin composer and conductor, and Berlin-based singer and songwriter integrate the unique and disturbing material in a choral work.

Composition and Arrangements: Ari Benjamin Meyers, Hauschka & Barbara Morgenstern
